In this era of social media, we have so many different types of artistry at our fingertips. There are endless subcategories within the beauty community where people can find someone who they are able to see themselves in. The plus-size/body-positive beauty community is one of the first places I saw fat girls (and boys) being unapologetic about their beauty, and completely daring with their artistry. Just the fact that there were fat people being visible, fabulous, and respected for their craft blew my mind.
I want to get up and twerk every time I see badass fat girl beating her face and letting the world have it. Over the years I have found some really amazing artists that inspire me to no end. Their mere presence in being a fat girl putting herself out there is something I know takes a lot of nerve. Because as fat women, people think they have the right to criticize our bodies, the way we dress, our decisions, and our femininity, along with so many other things.
The choice to put themselves out there for the world to see, to inspire others, to enable other people to see a reflection of themselves, takes a lot of strength. And while they all deserve to be celebrated. These are my picks for the best of the best artists on Instagram to follow!
Mexican American, California queen, celebrity makeup artist, beauty educator, creator of Brushfolio, and global makeup artist of Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. Priscilla wears many hats, and without a doubt her expertise in makeup, style, and travel adventures make her Instagram feed addicting to watch! Her beauty style is truly editorial-high-fashion-cool-girl-beauty and it’s DIVINE. She does an amazing job of giving us a behind the scenes look at what being a makeup artist at her level takes! One day she’s showing you her smoky eye technique, then she’s doing Rihanna’s makeup, and the next thing you know she’s giving us her homemade tostada recipe or hopping on a plane. She is a true boss and a total makeup master.
I remember the day that Gabriella went viral. I saw her and was stunned at seeing such a confident and radiant beauty! Her YouTube channel and Instagram are full of her brand of ultra-glam feminine beauty and it is mesmerizing. She does a lot of plus-size fashion content which is amazing, but it’s her foundation in artistry that gives her makeup style its expert, captivating touch. Her looks include lots of girly, bronzy, sparkly, glam looks that are easy to recreate. She’s definitely one to watch.
Nick is a working celebrity makeup artist whose work has been some of the best in the business for a LONG time. She’s the girl that musicians, celebrities, and all the beauty gurus like Jeffery Star, Jaclyn Hill, Manny MUA, and so many others hire to do THEIR makeup. This woman is always on the move and her looks are just so cool. They range from body painting and high glam, to drag inspired, she can really do it all. Right now, she is touring her beauty tour that’s selling out all over the country! Catch her in your city to learn all of her awesome beauty tips or, if you don’t like flying, give her a follow on her Instagram.
Australian beauty Jah is an artist whose work you’ve probably seen featured on every single beauty brands social media. She has one of the most perfect blending technique I’ve ever seen. She LOVES color, she loves sparkle and does not shy away from using it. I found her YouTube channel when I was trying to find a way to use more colors in a pallet that I owned and I’ve been addicted ever since.
Patrick Starr is one of my favorite beauty gurus! Men in makeup and beauty lovers everywhere look up to him for his amazing transformations. He just launched his second collaboration with Mac Cosmetics and he really is such a sweet, fun-loving guy to watch.
Alexandra is my best-friend-in-my-head beauty guru. What I mean by that is her personality really invites you to get to know her and her beauty journey, and her style is very approachable and wearable. She does tons of fashion content as well, but I love watching her beauty tutorials, hauls, and reviews on her YouTube channel and Instagram.
If you follow beauty you’ve seen Jazmina’s lips somewhere on your feed. She is infamous for her beautifully detailed and epic lip art. I love seeing her personal style on Instagram. Her YouTube tutorials inspire and teach you how to use unexpected textures and colors in glam that really make a statement.
I’m just going to come out and say it, Passion does some of my absolute favorite Get Ready With Me videos on YouTube! *mic drop*. Her style is so ultra glam that watching her makes me want to get off the internet and do my makeup. Everything she does, whether it be hair pieces, makeup, or fashion is really fascinating to watch. You really see her heart in her videos about body positivity. The vulnerability and heart behind the glam is what will keep you coming back!
Ms. Creative Diva is one of the first plus-size bloggers I started watching. I found her YouTube when I was trying to learn more about contouring on deeper complexions. She’s really one of the best I’ve ever seen do it as far as technique. She loves playing with colors and shapes but keeps the glam very approachable. The different steps she takes to prep the skin as an oily skin type were tricks even I didn’t know existed!

Kristi is hilarious! I absolutely love watching her and can always count on her reviews to be honest and concise. My favorites are her first impressions videos. When I’m watching I know what I see is what I’m going to get. She does tutorials on her YouTube channel that teach you how to create such lovely glam and diverse looks. Her Halloween series is an unmissable part of your binge-watching for today.
