About This Trip

¡Hola! (Hello!) We’re excited to invite you to our Pueblos Mágicos Tour. You’ll be exploring Mexico with our Editor-in-Chief, Annette from September 19-27, 2024. This private tour was created and curated by the Fat Girls Traveling team.

For the last three years, Annette has been based in Mexico, and after exploring wants to share some of the magic of the Riviera Maya with you! Our 9-day Pueblos Mágicos Tour starts in Playa del Carmen and ends in Tulum. During this trip, you’ll enjoy a private Cultural Expedition and get to be part of sacred Mayan ceremonies. We’ll visit Chichen Itza, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Our beach day will start with a private Camataran Adventure in Cozumel. Snorkeling, cocktails, and a Beach Club are included! We’ll travel by private transport to the yellow city of Izamal, the capital of the Yucatan region Merida, Uxmal, and more. Be prepared for the blue waters of Bacalar, also known as the Maldives of Mexico. Here we’ll have a private sunset catamaran tour and visit the Pirates Channel, Cenote of the Witch, and Bird Island while enjoying drinks and snacks.

This fat-positive tour is open to travelers of all sizes and gender identities.

Exclusions

  • You are responsible for airport transfers, International airport departure tax, local city taxes unless mentioned, late-check out at hotels, and any costs related to visas, insurance, and flights.
  • You are responsible for meals and drinks not mentioned in the itinerary, drinks with included lunches and dinners.
  • You are responsible for personal expenses, optional activities, and any services not mentioned in the itinerary.
  • You are responsible for tips for our Tour Leader, Guides, and Driver.

Itinerary

Day 1: September 19, 2024
Destination: Playa del Carmen

The first thing planned after you arrive at our hotel in Playa del Carmen is a welcome meeting with our Tour Leader at 6 PM. Other than that, you’re free to arrive at any time and spend the day however you like.

Day 2: September 20, 2024
Destination: Playa del Carmen

After breakfast, we’ll explore Playa del Carmen town and beach on a walking tour with our Tour Leader. In the afternoon we’ll break for lunch and reconnect at 4:45 PM for a private Cultural Expedition. Where we’ll learn how a small Mayan community lives with its traditions. We’ll be part of one of the Mayan sacred rituals and learn about a sacred purification ceremony. Our Cultural Expedition will end with a simple but delicious traditional gastronomic experience.

​​​​Day 3: September 21, 2024
Destination: Playa del Carmen – Cozumel

Today’s our beach day! After breakfast, we’ll take a ferry to Cozumel for a private Camataran Adventure! We’ll travel along the coast of Cozumel stopping at reefs to swim and snorkel. After enjoying cocktails and ceviche we’ll head to a Beach Club to relax on sun loungers, play floating games, or try kayaking or paddle boarding.

Day 4: September 22, 2024
Destination: Playa del Carmen – Merida

After an early breakfast, we’ll leave early for Merida, which is a 4-hour drive. We’ll stop at one of the most famous Maya sites in Mexico, Chichen Itza for a guided tour. This Mesoamerican step-pyramid is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The next stop on our “Magical Towns” Tour is the yellow city of Izamal. We’ll explore the colonial precincts, including the San Antonio de Padua Convent. Finally, we’ll continue to Merida, the capital of the Yucatan region. Founded in 1542, Merida has retained so much of its old-world charm.

​Day 5: September 23, 2024
Destination: Merida – Celestun

Our day will begin with a walking tour of Merida and learning about the town’s Maya heritage. Next, we’ll explore the biosphere reserve of Celestun in the coastal wetland east of the Yucatán. Here we will go on a boat ride where you can observe mangroves, some of the 300 species of birds, and pink flamingos!

After lunch, we’ll return to Merida City for a visit to the impressive Mundo Maya Museum. A world-class museum celebrating Maya culture, the Gran Museo houses a permanent collection of more than 1100 remarkably well-preserved artifacts.

Day 6: September 24, 2024
Destination: Merida – Uxmal – Bacalar

We’re leaving Merida early to drive approximately 1.5 hours to one of Mexico’s best-preserved Maya sites, Uxmal. After exploring the ruins including the Pyramid of the Magician we’ll stop for lunch before heading to Bacalar. Bacalar is said to be the first settlement of the Itza tribe, who would go on to create Chichen Itza. Today it’s commonly referred to as the Maldives of Mexico. Once we arrive we will take a short walking tour to help get our bearings in this small town.

Day 7: September 25, 2024
Destination: Bacalar

Today we have a free morning to sleep in, relax, or explore. At around 2:30 PM we will leave for a private sunset catamaran tour. The Bacalar Lagoon is a Caribbean rarity. It’s fed by underground rivers and from various cenotes. We’ll visit Pirates Channel, Cenote of the Witch, and Bird Island during our tour while enjoying drinks and snacks.

​​Day 8: September 26, 2024
Destination: Bacalar – Tulum

Enjoy a free morning relaxing at the hotel, before driving 2.5 hours to Tulum. Upon arrival, we’ll take an orientation walk with our Tour Leader. Tonight our three-course Farewell Dinner at a rustic restaurant deep in the heart of Tulum´s jungle. Everyone is invited to wear white for this cultural dining experience.

Day 9: September 27, 2024
Destination: Tulum  

Our Pueblos Mágicos Tour comes to an end today. There are no activities planned for the final day.

Cost of Trip

To keep costs as low as possible we’re offering tiered pricing. This means that pricing will depend on how many people join us. A minimum of 7 travelers will need to join for this trip to move forward. We’ll have a maximum of 12 travelers. All pricing is based on double occupancy but a single supplement is available if you want a private room.

A non-refundable deposit of $400 is required at the time of booking to secure your spot. The final payment will be due 90 days before departure. A private room is available for an additional fee of $810 per person.
